NACHI

In the NACHI online PIA that I can foward to have a customer sign online, I can not find away to attach the SOP, or a business license, under florida law state you need to have both ahead of time. In the online agreement there is a link to click for the SOP but its not all written out. How do you do your PIA? And what if the realor wants a copy e-mailed to them as well, I know the report is the clients, but what if they want a copy as well. Do I need a written authorization to release the report?

Step cracks, vertical crack.
Apparently duh house is 'under repair'.
Home inspector (all due respect Skip) buTT again, yapping about raising,sloping duh grade, long downspout extensions.
Eh Kevin, the clay soil also Exxxxpands eh plus at this house there are underground roots.

ROOF water (downspt ext's) that goes INTO-the-soil 7-10 whatever feet away, ya think all of that water STAYS AWAY from the basement walls?
Some of that water can still makes its way back TOWARDS basement walls! Shttt man, underground roots alone can carry water towards,near,against a basement wall.

That water IS getting in that basement because there are EXTERIOR cracks in the basement walls, PERIOD!

There may also be other exterior openings that need to be repaired such as openings/gaps around,just under,above basement windows,bricks and mortar joints,doors etc.

The EFFLORESCENCE, you don't think some or most of that can be due to the exterior cracks or other exterior openings huh?

See some bullsht work going on INSIDE basement, jesus are they installing piers etc? lolol

And at 1:08.....looks like somebody recently installed an interior system/see the basement FLOOR,about 18", new concrete,was j hammered etc. And ummm sure looks like there is water on the floor/that new piece,concrete apron. That is NOT going to STOP water from coming in and obviously doesn't remove,relieve,lessen ANY exterior pressure against the basement walls and doesn't remove any possible underground roots against the wall(s) which could certainly cause some cracks.

Hmmm, don't hear dogshtt about what SHOULD be done and WHY, exterior waterproofing. Yeah,pfttttt, we can see the longer black drain tile on downspouts.....LOL.

B Dry installed their BS here.....did THAT stop water from entering these exterior cracks and did THAT remove,relieve ANY exterior pressure off duh wall? (clay,roots)

Duuuh, do ya see WHERE water first-enters into the hollow block wall?
And THEN........after its inside duh blocks it falls through the lower blocks and comes out at-along the COVE, the bottom of basement wall/floor.


Here, some smaller roots grew INTO,THROUGH the exterior corner crack,helped widen the crack.....NO interior system on THIS PLANET does dogshttt in regards to stopping the water from where its REALLY entering and doesn't remove,relieve clay or roots.

And all these homes had at least 1 area of duh basement wall/inside, that had some efflorescence,some had x-amount of mold on past of block wall.

This is to let everyone know that some people talk the talk and also walk the walk.

I needed some help with thermal imaging. I had read Will Decker's page in the internet and remembered that he has an entry about mentoring home inspectors. So, I called Will Decker in the Chicago area and asked for his help. He was very gracious and immediately invited me to come along in one on his inspections.


Will was very generous with his time and knowledge during the inspection, and I managed to learn some new things. He was very courteous to me at all times and made me feel as an active member of the inspection instead of the onlooker that I really was. It was great to see a real pro at work, and I think we are lucky to have a member of InterNACHI who is so knowledgeable and ready to help others.

Gentlemen, need some suggestions on what type of respirator I should purchase....I have a full face type from my concrete days however, I am looking for a half face type. Will the ones they sell at Home Depot provide sufficient protection against molds,airborne fibers,animal feces?? Thanks in advance.

Please see photos of the copper water service below. There is a button shaped object on the tubing just below the valve with lots of calcification around it. Looks like a nail head to me though I don't see any rust. It wasn't leaking at the time so there was no way I was going to scrape or touch it to try to determine what kind of material it was.

What say you?

This one was easy to identify as it had not been patched or gaps concealed.

Other signs can be apparent even when not significantly out of level, thought I'd share.

I'd say that one of the most common signs of rotation or similar defect is a V or tapered crack where firebox meets face of fireplace, such as brick or similar. Maybe you've seen repaired grout in this area?

By the way, not in Bev Hills today :D

Good day Americas finest.....I am inspecting a condo for my first time soon. Other then some stuff being common to both sides, I am assuming this will be pretty much like a regular home inspection. Do any of you condo inspection veterans have a different view. Is there anything more to a condo inspection? any addittional criteria?

I recently ordered a case of "Now you've had a home inspection" booklets which I include with my home inspection binders - Clients love them. Unfortunately when they got to the Canadian border and UPS called me and said $56.00 for brokerage fees. The order was only $108.00. Shipping was $57.42, add the brokerage fee of $56.00 and your talking $113.00 additional for a $108.00 order.
Has anybody found a Canadian distributor with a similar booklet?

The water heater and furnace are both fueled by natural gas. They are sharing the same flue and the y-adapter is slightly bigger than furnace flue. My client is getting a weird smell at the top of the basement steps recently around the corner on rear side of block chimney. I'm thinking blowback because of the shared flues and both appliances are about 20 years old. Her HVAC guy has been there and says there are no issue with anything. I am thinking the water heater flue NEEDS to be separated from the Y-Adapter and installed higher up. Any recommendations?

Do you open electrical service panels (remove the normal panel cover if necessary) to check or verify the condition of the electrical wiring, etc?

If not why not?

Are home inspectors obliged to comply the Occupational Health and Safety ACT?

Just curious of what others do and consider as a normal safe inspection practice when dealing with the electrical service inspection.

The home I inspected today use to have a wood burning stove. A class A vent is installed. A free standing gas fireplace has replaced the wood burning. The gas fireplace vents into the Class A vent. Is this ok. I understand Class A is generally used for high temperature fuels such as wood or oil. Since the class A is designed for high temperatures is there any reason why it could not be used for gas which is cooler. I feel as though it is ok but as you see in the left side of the photo, the neighbors had the same conversion and their installer ran a B vent through the Class A.
Thoughts?
